ASK YOUR MSP TO DEMAND ANSWERS FROM THE SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT
Back Off Scotland are a grassroots campaign group that brought safe access zones to Scotland, they are now fighting for equal access to services. BPAS is the largest abortion provider in England and Wales and led the campaign to bring safe access zones to England and Wales and provide abortion care and support to the hundreds of Scottish women who have had to travel to England for treatment.
We have worked tirelessly to highlight the challenges faced by women who cannot access timely surgical abortion care in Scotland. Our advocacy has brought national attention to the plight of women forced to travel to England for these services.
In response to our advocacy efforts, the Scottish Government committed to the establishment of abortion services up to the legal limit in 2022. It is now almost 2025 and the number of women travelling to England for abortion care is at the highest level since before the pandemic. Concerningly, a senior Doctor has also told the Herald on Sunday that there is only one doctor in the whole of Scotland trained to provide abortion care up to 24 weeks - less than there were in 2022 when the commitment was made.
