Take action to save telemedical abortion services
Telemedical abortion care was introduced in April 2020. It allows women to receive abortion medication by post following a consultation with a qualified nurse or midwife.
The government is currently considering whether to revoke the service, and in doing so re-criminalise early abortion at home.
This means women could go to prison for life if caught using safe, medical abortion pills at home.
An analysis published in the Guardian demonstrates that this would have a disproportionate impact on women from deprived communities. Women from the most deprived backgrounds are almost three times more likely to have abortions than women from the wealthiest backgrounds, and the gap has worsened during the pandemic.
